Merging bright sparkly metallics with Rustic Charm with Artisan Premium Chalk Paint and Metallic Alchemy
Tax included.
When you dare to step outside the norm and blend the worlds of modern, shimmering metallics with the vintage allure of aged textures and rustic charm, you embark on a journey that leads you to a unique destination.
We've taken an old table table and further enriched its character by applying premium chalk paint to enhance its textures & imperfections. Instead of the typical waxed finish, we've introduced a medley of various Artisan Metallic Alchemy colours to the piece. This unique approach not only imparts an antiqued appearance but also visually reshapes the table, giving it new life with a visually captivating dimension that is ever changing with the light.
This is the essence of decorative painting with Artisan Paints. Our commitment is to provide you with premium paints that unlock boundless creative possibilities, enabling you to merge, innovate, and bring your unique vision to life with ease, requiring little to no preparation, low in VOCS with a rapid dry time. We're here to inspire, fuel your creativity and let your imagination soar.
What we did:
Painted the entire table in Tahr Premium Chalk Paint, over brushing and moving it all directions on both coats, ensuring we load the paint up thickly and over work it as it dries.
Luna Lustre Metallic Alchemy was then applied over the entire piece, followed by a subtle semi transparent mix of Indie Gold, once touch dry we've run steel wool over the piece to distress the indie gold and leave it in between the textures. This creates a great base to then start merging other metallics onto...
We then blended Clouded Pewter, Jayda Rose and Indie Gold onto the piece, mixing and merging each colour on with a spalter brush and angled brushed, lightly distressing and pulling back with steel wool here and there, shading and highlighting back and forth.
light brushing of dark wax to knock back the metallic and age further.

Stool with Coastal Vibes in Artisan Velvet Luxe and Premium Chalk Paint - with painted fabric
Tax included.
Transforming a piece with Artisan paints is an opportunity to infuse your unique style, creating something one-of-a-kind that stands apart from mass-produced items. We often embrace the philosophy of #seethingsdifferently, inviting you to view a piece of furniture as a blank canvas filled with endless possibilities with Artisan Paints.
Whether it's a grand furniture item or a small, seemingly insignificant piece, the transformation can be nothing short of remarkable. Take this old, dated stool, once unwanted and cast aside to an op shop. It's undergone a complete redesign, a testament to the transformative powers of Artisan paints.
We've used Artisan colour and different finishes to break up and reshape the piece visually, even adding a silver stripe to the fabric to harmonize with the silver leg, creating a seamless connection. The beautiful pairing of blue and white exudes coastal vibes, and the touch of luxury is elegantly achieved with Arcadian Silver. It's proof that with Artisan paints, the potential for reinventing and reviving old furniture is endless. 🎨🪚💫 #ArtisanPaints #FurnitureMakeover #UniqueDesigns
What we did:
Painted the frame around the seat in Velvet Luxe Old Chiffon, creating a contemporary velvety smooth one colour finish
The legs have been painted in Royal Navy Premium Chalk Paint and we've created added depth and shading by finishing off 3 of the legs with Carbon Black Wax
The other leg finished in Aracdian Silver using 20mls of Illuminator to 6 Tads (measurement off the artisan measuring spoons) of Arcadian Metallic Concentrate. The same mix has also been used to paint the silver stripe on the fabric.
Note/ Tip: we completed the silver leg with 3 coats of Arcadian Silver to achieve this finish, to use less product/ coats. Do a base coat of whatever you intend to be silver with a colour like Parisian Grey, Stormy Creek or Clubhouse Grey

Chairs are one of those projects you don't want to have to paint and then wax, with smaller details and many sides to a chair, whether you have a set or just one to do it's one of those projects you want done fast, so Artisan Velvet Luxe is a great go to for chairs, just paint, cover and once dry you are done. Today we're showcasing the beautiful matte velvety finish that is Velvet Luxe on this chair, although ideal for a one colour contemporary finish, Velvet Luxe (like our premium chalk paints) comes in 67 Artisan colours and can be mixed together for endless custom shades and hues. So here we have a chair that has been painted and blended in multiple colours transforming what was a dark varnished chair into something artful and bespoke as a decor piece to hold towels and soaps in a tropical style bathroom.
What we did
Painted the entire chair in one coat of Tropical lagoon Velvet Luxe
Once dry we started to paint, mix and blend onto the chair. Darker blues you see is a mix of Tropical Lagoon with a touch of Carbon Black, blended out to Tropical Lagoon with the rest being a mix and blend of Dusky Fields and Tropical Lagoon then ending with Dusky Fields around the feet .
Detailed with forgotten gold glide
Brushes used : The One brush, Spalter brush and detail brush (all of the "One Series" bristles are perfect for blending)
Mixing and blending is a lot of fun and with a couple of colours you can create many ombre'd, mixed and blended looks on pretty much anything you like with little to no prep, utilising that luxe matte finish with it all being durable and wipeable. Artisan Velvet Luxe is a great go to for chairs whether it be a one colour or mixed and blended finish.

Commissioned Coffee Table; Dark to light in Artisan Premium Chalk Paint
Tax included.
Doing Artisan white with character; white doesn't have to be bland or stark and this beautiful commission project of a coffee table shows just that, originally a high gloss and tired table with chips and markings from it's history, Premium Chalk Paint has been used to hand paint directly over the existing surface to create hand painted texture, using the rich body of the paint to fill in fine scratches then applying an artisan coloured wash to subtly age, detail and enhance the imperfections to fit into the overall look of a softly aged, elegant white coffee table. Sealed with Artisan Premium lacquer for durability and practicality for the bespoke hand painted finish to function as a high use coffee table.
A great example for those who want to go from dark to white with en existing coffee table or large piece of furniture; without it being a stark contemporary white. Going from dark to light on a large piece of furniture can instantly brighten, lift and shift the mood in an interior space; adding a more restful calming touch to the room.
What we did :
Painting: Hand painted with texture (painting in all directions) in Wild Tusk Premium Chalk Paint using a Staalmeester series 2020 size 18 and and pointed tip size 12 for corners and edges loading plenty of paint as we go. It's important to use brushes in proportion to your piece to avoid paint build up. Painted in two good coats brushing in all directions both times. Once dry; lightly sanded with 240 grit sandpaper to remove excess texture and to create a silky smooth touch to the surface but leaving plenty of texture behind
Colour Wash: A colour wash was required for creating a subtle age over the white and also to allow us to use Artisan Premium Lacquer as a finishing top coat.(remember you can't use Artisan Lacquer over coloured waxes)
Tahr Premium Chalk Paint diluted with water in a cup, 70% water 30% Artisan Tahr Premium Chalk Paint, mixed together to create a light brown dye like consistency. Picking up a small amount of the colour wash (just enough to wet the tips of the bristles) with our staalmeester series 2020 brush in size 18. Brushed over Wild Tusk in one directions and lightly ragged over with a clean lint free rag creating a soft subtle age working in sections until the entire coffee table was covered in a an artisan coloured wash/
Tip: if you find your wash too strong in areas or becomes a little patchy, pick up plain water on your brush and rework the area by brushing over and wipe to adjust, works like an eraser.
A second colour wash was then created this time making it a little stronger a 50/50 mix of water and Tahr Premium Chalk Paint and this was used to create low lights and define areas with age using Staalmeester angled fitch brushing on in selected areas and then ragging back .
Lacquer: Artisan Premium Matte Lacquer applied with a Staalmeester flat 2inch brush to seal the hand painted finish and for durability.

Outdoor glass and metal table transformed in Artisan Stone and Metallic Alchemy (Video Included)
Tax included.
We love this extreme transformation of your very common kiwi outdoor table, you can still purchase these new at The Warehouse or Mitre 10. Not very stylish, but functional, sometimes you can find them discarded at the second hand or op shop for little to nothing. You know the ones... glass top, metal legs and some type of plastic discs through the centre.
We wanted to take something that wasn't overly stylish, carved or curvy and show how you can still add Artisan Flair to even the plainest piece with a bit of vision. From plain and common to feature table with strong Artisan Flair and we have a video below for you to see how this one was done make sure you read some of the "pointers" below the Video too.
When there's little to no prep, Artisanal products that are fast drying with low VOCS anything is possible, your limited only by your imagination...
What we did:
Hand Painted the legs and frame of the table in Indie Gold Glass Table top in Stone Effects in Elephant Dust Plastic discs in Clubhouse Grey Premium Chalk Paint and Arcadian Silver
Tools used 100mm Stone Effects Spreading Tool Staalmeester Angled Fitch Brush
Some pointers to take note of after watching the video:
With Artisan Metallic Alchemy when using the Illuminator + Metallic Concentrate, use The Staalmeester "one" series. These are super soft bristles allowing for beautiful flawless metallic finishes.
Stone Effects: although in most cases, Artisan Lacquers are not neccesary, when it comes to creating table tops or benches, coffee table tops, anything thats going to get used really hard and need regular wiping and cleaning, it is recommended that you apply Artisan Lacquer over the top to in particular make the surfaces easily wipeable on a regular basis.
Arcadian Silver is best used over a Premium Chalk Paint base like Clubhouse Grey. Premium Chalk Paint adheres to almost any surface + Metallic Alchemy bonds with Premium Chalk Paint really well = you can create Artisan Metallic finishes on almost any surface.
If applying Metallic Alchemy directly over a surface like we did over the metal. Even if you have gained full coverage on the first coat, you still want to do 2 good coats to allow there to be enough Artisan Metallics on there to protect and wear well. Once it's on there though it's a very hard durable and wipeable surface.
The finish shown in the Video are using products that is suitable for both indoors and outdoors.

Softly aged table in Artisan Premium Chalk Paints- Video included
Tax included.
We are all too familiar with these vintage tables, dark mahogany with that shiny dark glossy varnish, maybe a few water stains, a bit of a crack in one of the legs with a whole lot of dust. Such great candidates for Artisan Paints and Products, no priming, or sanding being able to paint straight onto them means little effort, great visual impact and so functional for the home.
This was a small table where we chose to work alongside the imperfections and history of the piece to create a softly aged table using the colours drawn from the room it's going into to create a really subtle connection to the cushions, throws and soft furnishings in the room.
What we did:
We have used the Artisan Colour Smudge technique on this. If you haven't seen the video for this we've included it below for you where you will see and understand what a diluted colour smudge, and dry colour smudge is all about. We are using Peony an off white as a base and with colours that contrast rather than merge so steel wool has also been used as well see below.
Painting: Painted in Artisan Premium Chalk Paint in Peony using a Staalmeester series 2020 brush; size 18 for the table top and a pointed tip; size 12 for the legs (make sure you choose the right size brush to avoid paint build up on the delicate details). Brushed in all directions to create subtle texture just like in the video . We did two coats.
Waxing: Just like in the Video, we continued with a Club House grey colour wax. Bear in mind there is a stronger contrast between Clubhouse grey and Peony than the colours used and shown in the video, so after this step your project may look a little overpowered by that clubhouse grey wax (if you've totally mastered it, move on to the next step). If you feel it's gone too grey use fine steel wool a bit like an eraser and lightly run this over the painted and waxed surface to highlight, and bring the Peony back more, let the Club House grey collect between the brushstrokes, corners and edges. You can find the steel wool we're talking about by clicking here
Colour Smudges as shown in the video in this order: Diluted Colour Smudge first in Tahr just in the corners and on selected areas Diluted Colour Smudge in Duck Egg in selected areas only with some overlapping the Tahr, you will find this start to soften the whole look. Dry Colour Smudge in Tahr just in the corners, dips and some of the bevels Dry Colour Smudge in Duck Egg just here and there
Optional Final run of the fine steel wool if needed which will help you to balance your colour smudges in areas where you may have gone to strong, this will help to soften or highlight the area.
Optional: a touch of Metallic glide in forgotten gold on the edges if your like the imperfect look, lightly run your fine steel wool over this too.
The Artisan Colour Smudge technique is a fun and easy technique that can get you creating all types of different soft looks with Artisan Premium Chalk paint colours and waxes. There are no mistakes, just what you like, explore have fun and have fun painting!

Commission Dresser in Aged Metallics
Tax included.
A beautiful transformation of the classic highly varnished red mahogany dresser.
Sympathetically revived into a bespoke and elegant metallic dresser that is ever changing with the light and one that glows with the light. A stunning piece with textures, subtle variation and age creating a timeless metallic feature piece for our client and her home.
Furniture surrounds us all the time and sometimes it's wonderful to be able to create a piece either in tribute, to signify a change, mark a moment or new beginning. adding another layer of sentimental value to the piece. We all need to surround ourselves more with things that we love and have meaning.
What we did:
Painted in Starling and Wendy's Pink Premium Chalk Paint with subtle texture allowing some parts to mix, moving the paint in all directions with a Staalmeester series 2020 brush. Once we achieved full coverage, we chose certain areas and painted this in Wendys Pink so that we could distress it back and show subtle pops of pink and green underneath.
Metallic Glaze of Indie Gold (mixing the illuminator and Indie Gold concentrate into a semi translucent mix) and brushing this all over the dresser, it should turn the dresser into gold but still be able to see the colours underneath ever so subtly.
Followed by Artemis Bronze in areas and then Milan Moonshadow in areas, brushing it on and dabbing it off in areas with a scrunched up lint free rag, creating markings and layers... working back and forth until you are happy with the balance of colours, then followed by another glaze mix of Indie Gold, brush it on and dapping off with a lint free rag to soften and blend everything together.
Distressed certain areas with a fine steel wool to age in areas and show the underlying colours as soon as the metallics were touch dry (if you leave it longer it will get very hard to distressed as metallics are very strong as they start to cure)
Full strength Indie Gold (mixing the illuminator and Indie gold concentrate into almost a thick cream) then using this to stencil over all the drawers, creating a highly reflective gold stencil work and painting out the handles.
Distressed just the edges with fine steel wool as soon as the metallics were touch dry but still soft..

Farmhouse Rustic Table
Tax included.
Originally a varnished honey coloured wooden table, revived with an Artisan paint finish in a farmhouse rustic style to work as an extra working bench in the centre of a kitchen. The top given an extreme textured and rustic Artisan faux wood farmhouse finish, which allows for knocks and dings and the ability to work and be " rough" on the table top without having to worry too much about damage. Rustic paint finishes like this will in fact look better over time with general wear and tear so makes it ideal for what this table is intended to be used for.
Contrasted with lightened legs and skirting with subtle hues of Artisan colour, aged and distressed creating plenty of character to add into the Kitchen as a relaxed working table with farmhouse vibes. Working with all the imperfections of an old table, we've taken an old table and made it look even older turning it into a character piece to inject a little farmhouse vibe in what would've otherwise been a contemporary space
What we did
Table top : Aired out Tahr premium chalk paint in a bowl for an hour, then Hand painted using Staalmeester 3600 Pure Bristle brush, loading plenty of paint onto the surface, then went back with a hair dryer we pulled the paint in one direction over and over creating extreme texture and drying it at the same time. A second coat was applied to fill in the gaps after pulling it around with a hairdryer.
lightly sanded the dried Tahr Premium Chalk Paint with 240 grit sand paper to level off any super extreme textures, taking care to not smooth it out too much during this process but more to remove any unnatural "bumps"
Detailed with Carbon Black coloured wax in a linear motion, a very light dry brushing/dusting of crisp white wax followed by clear wax over the top and firmly wiped to blend, lighten, and highlight and create variation. Followed by a very light sand with 240 grit to highlight the texture and burnish the surface, then buffed the top firmly with a clean lint free rag to polish.
Legs : Painted using Staalmeester size 18 series 2020 in Crisp White Premium Chalk Paint, followed by Stormy Creek coloured Wax, over the entire surface, followed by Kingsley coloured wax just here and there and Tahr coloured wax also placed just here and there. Steel wooled areas to highlight as well as lightly sanded the surface with 240 grit sandpaper to highlight more of the texture and well distressed the edges

Mirror using the Artisan Colour Smudge technique
Tax included.
Mirrors are great candidates for an Artisan Paint finish, a fast easy project that can be done within a couple of hours max with no sanding or priming required. Customise it in the colours to suit you home, a newly updated mirror is a great way to create impact and inject new energy into your home. Take an existing mirror and create your Artisan Paint finish making it beautifully bespoke for your home.
This finish is ideal for softening existing gold gilded mirrors but as the video below shows you don't have to have one to create this finish. If you you have a plain wooden, plastic or veneer mirror you can still create this by creating an Artisan Gold base first.
We've captured it all for you in a short video reel:
Base colours: Carbon Black Classic Gold Creme (you can miss this step if you already have an existing gold gilded mirror)

Commission Bedside in Artisan stone stencil and Metallic Alchemy
Tax included.
Coming out of a 2 year hiatus from commission works to create these bespoke hand painted bedsides for an old client of ours.
Inspired by our clients story behind this commission project. We came up with this creative concept for her bedsides to signify a moment in time. A concept to signify strength, femininity, empowerment, resilience and elegance.
These beautifully rustic metallic bedsides, have been sympathetically revived with bright pops of underlying colours, an old worldly raised stone stencilling, hand created textures, cracks and chips all encased in Artisan metallics. So imperfectly perfect, rustic yet elegant with a strong presence. A captivating artful revival, these hand painted and created bedsides will elevate and set the tone in the bedroom, a feature set that will naturally draw the eye towards them, adjusting constantly with the reflective gold finish. An absolute honour to have these travel over 200km to have to have us work on them.
Furniture surrounds us all the time and sometimes it's wonderful to be able to create a piece either in tribute, to signify a change, mark a moment or new beginning. adding another layer of sentimental value to the piece. We all need to surround ourselves more with things that we love and have meaning.
Painted in Wendy's Pink Premium Chalk Paint, loading on thickly and moving in all directions with a Staalmeester series 2020 brush.
Dry brushed in the following colours: Toulouse, Purple Sash, Firefly,
(To dry brush pick up a small amount of Premium Chalk Paint, and dab most of it off on a rag... your brush should almost be dry with colour on the tips, then sweep it over in areas over Wendy's Pink, creating patches and overlaying colours together)
Indie metallic gold brushed over in areas but allowing the colours to show through, sweeping over the textures. Milan Moonshadow metallic as a low light detailed over in areas around the handles and on the handles themselves. Distressed edges with 240 grit as soon as the metallics were touch dry but still soft

Table with texture, layered in Somerset Gold and Artemis Bronze - Metallic Alchemy Range (video included)
Tax included.
We know these tables, often a bit dinged up and maybe a bit swollen from water damage or water ring marks, dark, highly varnished and usually you'll find one at an op shop or second hand shop unfortunately we don't have the before photo of this one but you get the drift. Ideal little tables for the Metallic Alchemy range, elevating it from meh... to wow. In an Artisan metallic these become more like furniture- decor, elevating the space that it's in and drawing the eye to it as a little feature piece for the home.
This table was really worse for wear, the top was incredibly damaged. Chips and dents through the wood work. To work in with the imperfections we stippled the top as a base for the metallics, a textured premium chalk paint finish was done, to work in with the chips and dings and also to help elevate the metallic finish and give it the appearance of metallic foil.. Artisan Metallics work particularly well on textured or curved surfaces where it can bounce and reflect the light, therefore require you being imperfect in both the paint finish and with the Artisan Metallics... easy enough right? paint messy? well... we have a quick video guide for you below as well....just click full screen and take a look at how the below was done.
What we did:
Hand painted in Clubhouse Grey Premium Chalk Paint, with texture with a staalmeester brush, brushing the paint in different directions to give the surface movement and texture as a base for the Layered Metallic Alchemy finish
Metallics: Somerset gold brushed on at high strength, 2 coats. Followed by a quarter strength of Artemis Bronze brushed over in dips and and areas where we wanted to provide lowlights
Edges framed in Forgotten gold metallic glide to frame the entire metallic finish

Plastic Olive Barell turned into decorative stone outdoor pot with artisan paints & products
Tax included.
We love extreme transformations like this one, an old dirty olive barrell found at a "junk yard" (still with a couple of olives in it) turned into a bespoke decorative outdoor stone pot. A great example of Artisan paints allowing you to create and "see things differently" like unwanted plastic olive barrels into decorative stone pots. These have been transformed as part of Artisan At Home NZ to sit as feature pots on either side the entrance of a large outdoor deck area. Utilising the large scale of these olive barrels to create something beautifully unique with Artisan paints & products .
A short Video reel has been created to show you the process and artisanal journey of this bespoke finish that anyone can do with a little no how (no sanding or priming; just go for it) What we want you to take out of it is that whether it's a 1 step finish simply with Artisan Stone Effects or a 2 step finish with Stone Effects and a coloured wash or a 5 step finish with metallics. Decorative painting with Artisan Paints is pretty simple once you get your head around it, it's about providing you with the tools, paints & products to create whatever it is you can imagine for your home quickly, easily and creatively. Once you have the basics principles you can go on to create, add, adjust and stop at whatever point you like as the video below shows.
For a comprehensive guide to understand Stone Effects click here or watch the Video below for a quick look at how we kept adding and adjusting to the Artisan Stone Effects finish on these olive barrels:

Commissioned Bookcase in Artisan Premium Chalk Paint
Tax included.
Bookcases are ideal for an Artisan Makeover, often large and blocky, customers often find them too dark, too orange too overbearing. A great chance to revive it suit the colour and styling of your home in a finish that you like; making it a bespoke piece in your home, appearing like it was made and designed for the space rather than being the odd piece out or an after thought. With bookcases often being larger in size an Artisan Paint finish can make a big impact in your interior space and the area that it sits in. We often recommend doing the internals in a contrast or slightly differently to break up the "blockiness" of a bookcase; it also allows you to add a bespoke and special detail to the piece, whether it be through freshening it up in an Artisan White or punching it out in a colour that you have drawn from the space or outlook.
This commission piece in it's new finish has given it a completely new look and style, elegant light and sophisticated, lightly aged on the externals for a character finish working in with the imperfections to bringing it to life as part of the overall finish. The new Artisan paint finish makes it appear larger yet softer at the same time in the colours and finish to perfectly suit our clients space
What we did :
Painting externals : Hand painted with sublte texture in a custom mix of 50/50 Potters Clay and Crisp White, using staalmeester series 2020 size 18. Once dry and completely covered, lightly sand with 240 grit sandpaper to remove any unwanted textures leaving behind subtle textures only.
Waxing: a mix of Artisan dark Wax and clear wax to create a light brown wax for subtle ageing. Brushed on with Staalmeester 3600 brush and wiped back with lint free rag,
(optional) some areas were given more lowlights and framing by dry brushing Artisan Dark wax in specific areas then lightly dusting off with a clean lint free rag
TiP: if you ever find your dark wax to be too dark or heavy, use plain clear wax back over it to remove , simply brush it on in circular motion and firmly wipe with a clean lint free rag to remove; works like an eraser.
Internals : Edged and cut in around the internals and shelving with a one inch (10) Staalmeester flat brush in Velvet Luxe in Wild Tusk with the surfaces rolled over with Staalmeester mini rollers for a flat; smooth one colour finish. 2 and half coats with a roller (no wax as Velvet Luxe does not require it) Note: a mini roller will allow you to paint flatter surfaces like this easier and faster and is ideal when doing a flat finish where no hand painted texture is required.
Tip: When looking to do the internals a different colour or neutral, you can either go tone on tone by using the same colour and mixing a little white until you get to the right tone, contrasting with a white or darker colour or one of our favourites is if you have colour in your home, artwork, a special outlook, or detail in your home in colour draw one of the colours out on the internals of your bookcase to link the space and create a bespoke detail unique to your home.If you use your bookcase for displaying decor, choose a colour that will compliment what you are displaying eg) if it's full of crystals and glass a deep dark backdrop can help to create mood, enhance the crystal and glass and elevate your setting even more.

Commissioned Sideboard in Artisan Baked Apple
Tax included.
A transformation in tribute to special memories and the connection that our client has to this piece. A beautiful commissioned sideboard utilising the markings and history of the piece in its new decorative finish.
A dark, heavy and tired piece has now been given an Artisan finish using Baked Apple; a pale soft warm green painted with subtle texture, in keeping with the character and the history of the piece, it's previous imperfections of crackled varnish and splits on the top of the sideboard has been enhanced and brought out as a feature with artisan coloured waxes and metallics highlighting these imperfections, combining the history of the piece with its new look. Every bevel and corner detailed a beautiful showcase of a hand painted piece in Artisan paints and products and how a dark and dated piece can be transformed elegantly, without losing it's character to perfectly fit into a space. The colours chosen for both paint and coloured waxes were inspired by our clients artwork, rug and lead lights allowing us to customise the finish to tie in with the space that it will be going into. Now a beautiful bespoke hand painted piece that will sit proudly in our clients home, treasured and enjoyed for many more years to come.
What we did :
Painting: Hand painted with Subtle texture in Artisan Baked Apple Premium Chalk Paint full strength with a Staalmeester series 2020 size 18 and a size 12 pointed tip for the bevels, the entire body painted along with hinges and hardware. Lightly sanded after painting to remove any unwanted texture allowing for gentle texture.
Waxing in order done: A 80 clear wax 20 dark wax was mixed together to create a subtle dark wax. Brushed over with our Staalmeester 3600 pure bristle brush gently wiped excess back with a clean lint free rag
A Dusky Fields coloured wax was then mixed (clear wax and Dusky fields premium chalk paint) and then lightly brushed over the dark wax allowing it to mix and merge, gently wiped back with a clean lint free rag
Thirdly a rubbed sage coloured wax was then mixed (clear wax and rubbed sage premium chalk paint) and lightly dusted over and gently dusted back with a clean lint free rag.
All bevels edges and areas around the handle then further detailed with a strong mix of Dusky Fields coloured wax
All bevels and hardware then enhanced with Vienna gold Metallic Glide which blends in beautifully with Baked Apple and then with forgotten gold mixed here and there for a subtle two tone metallic.

Mahogany half round table in Artisan Stone - Tuscan style stone finish
Tax included.
We recently released a video on how to create a Tuscan style stone finish on a plastic barrel and it's been great to see the large number of video streams from this; a simple technique with a little know how creating a beautiful varied Artisan stone finish with strong tuscan vibes.
So today we're answering the question of whether this can be applied to furniture and what would that look like, the answer is yes and it looks like an Artisan Stone piece.
Here it is, your typical dark Mahogany half round table transformed into Artisan Stone... competed in the same finish as the plastic barrel shown in the video using the exact same technique, with the only difference being that we dropped down in size when it came to the brush, working instead with a Staalmeester pointed tip (same bristles as series 2020) in proportion to the piece of furniture for the coloured washes and being guided by the furniture and it's natural lines we've chosen to emphasise and shadow according to the shape of your classic half round table. (Artisan Stone Spreaders were still used in the same way)

Coffee Table in Artisan Metallic Alchemy
Tax included.
A complete revival and transformation of a coffee table for a good client of ours. A sentimental piece with clean lines, well built and our client was after a special Artisan finish to honour the memories of this piece and what this piece represented. A story we connected to; and agreed to undertake the work. After discussions with our client we understood her style, completed a video call of the room it was going into, and a loose brief of a Metallic finish was discussed. Once we had the piece in our hands, we came up with and finalised a concept that worked in with the existing piece with the aim to completely transform and elevate the piece utilising our Metallic Alchemy Range. With Metallics working best on curves and details we added detailing to the tray of the coffee table in order to maximise and allow the artisan metallic paint finish to fully shine, we chose a design that worked best with our clients style and were given the creative freedom to create. Now a beautiful bespoke coffee table with a brushed metallic paint finish that reacts and adjusts to light and shadow. It's a one off piece, hand painted, and detailed to fit in with our clients style and interiors. A special piece to honour the beautiful memories and connection that our client has with this piece.
What we did:
The Tray stencilled in Artisan Stone Effect (due for release this spring)
Painted in Artisan Tahr Premium Chalk Paint using a Staalmeester 1 inch flat brush for the frame and a series 2020 size 20 for the tray painting with subtle texture. Once dry, we lightly sanded the frame to allow for subtle texture only to this area. The entire coffee table painted in Artisan Tahr.
Metallic Alchemy :
Artisan Champagne gold metallic creme was applied over Tahr using a Spalter Brush, Angled Fitch brush and The One brush to allow for a flawless finish allowing only the subtle texture from the Premium Chalk Paint to show.
The Tray was further detailed with Finley Gold and Jayda Rose Glaze with a subtle touch of Artisan Dark Wax
Fine edges of coffee table detailed in Artisan Metallic Glide in Gold
Handles: Painted in Artisan Tahr Premium Chalk Paint with texture and finished in Artisan Classic Gold Creme

Summer Project: Table in Artisan Velvet Luxe and Artisan Stone Effects with Video
Tax included.
Summer is truly here in NZ and one of the beauties of No Sanding, No Priming; minimal prep is that a redo or creating a new look over an existing Artisan paint finish is a simple as it was the first time, just paint straight over pretty much any existing finish whether it be varnish or paint.
As part of Artisan At Home project this table which was given a Bruised Petal look last Autumn has this summer has been re-imagined into a different look and style with Ocean Trench in Velvet Luxe; our little prep, hybrid chalk paint that self levels ideal for a one colour finish that is suitable for both indoors and outdoors. This deep mysterious colour has been paired with our lightest Stone Effects in Rustic Rye creating a wonderful striking contrast with the appearance and feel of a stone top all painted straight over the previous bruised petal finish with no prep other than a clean. Artisan colours and finishes allows you to transcend through different styles, to suit or to help create the bespoke look and feel you are wanting to for your space whether it be a dusky pink or stone top finish; it's all possible with Artisan Paints and Products. .
What we did :
Table legs and frame : Hand painted with Ocean Trench Velvet Luxe using a Staalmeester 2 inch and 1 inch flat brush, 2 x coats over Bruised Petal.
Top : Stone Effects in Rustic Rye using stone effects spreading tool kits in all 3 sizes. A firm, smooth flat spread on the first coat in multiple directions followed by a second smooth flat spread in opposing directions from the first coat to create strong variation but minimal peaks and rustic textures for ease of cleaning.
Rustic Rye Stone Effects was lightened further with a crisp white wash to suit this outdoor space. To do this: Dilute crisp white premium chalk paint with water in a container ; start with a 70 water 30 paint mix, try it out on your stone effects top then adjust to suit, add more crisp white premium chalk paint to lighten further and make the wash stronger, add more water to dilute further and make the wash more subtle to suit. This will also decoratively enhance the texture further.
With your pre-mixed crisp white wash use your staalmeester brush to brush out over a small section and lightly rag with a clean lint free rag to blend it in. Repeat until you have covered the entire top
Once the wash was dry ( a few minutes after ragging) we followed with 3 thin coats of Artisan Lacquer for ease of clean for a table top surface
Tip: When doing Stone Effects on a table top we always recommend adding a top coat of Artisan lacquer for ease of cleaning see video of how easy it is to clean a textured stone top after applying lacquer.
See video below of cleaning the table top and a closer look at the one the many possible stone effects possible through Artisan Stone Effects

Aged Green in Artisan Green House & Liberty
Tax included.
Bold and brights aren't just for contemporary spaces but are also great for creating an aged finish, bringing a beautiful old worldly charm and character into a space as shown with this project. You'll be surprised at how much bright colours like Wendy's Pink, Azure King finisher, Purple Sash could work as an aged decorative Artisan Paint finish. In this example we're showing it to you with Artisan Liberty & Greenhouse. Small pieces like this are great for creative finishes and adding that pop of colour to.
What we did: Painted in Artisan Liberty using a Pro-hybrid 2020 size 18 for the flat surfaces and a Staalmeester pointed tip on the bevels and the legs of the table and areas with finer detailing. Brushing the paint out & creating texture by generously loading the brush and brushing the paint out in all directions in one and a half coats achieving good full coverage.
Diluted Green House Premium Chalk Paint with water by approximately 15% to thin the paint out (we do this to allow us to wax distress later). Applying one thin coat over Liberty brushing it out thinly in areas where you can still see Liberty coming thorough.
Dark wax : Brushed out dark wax over Green House, rubbing firmly with a clean lint free rag, this allows you to distress some of the greenhouse off as well as wipe any excess wax off. Creating a worn distressed look allowing Liberty to come through in areas. Greenhouse was diluted to create a thin veil over Liberty making this step easy to do. Then go over and apply a thin coat of dark wax in areas you want to accentuate and age further.
Soft gold applied decoratively on the edges and detailing and steel wooled back. Jayda Rose Glaze applied here and there to provide a subtle coppery hue.
Choose your bright and bold colours and age with Artisan dark wax for an old worldly pop of colour...

What we did :
Painting (The Top and tray ) : Hand painted with deep linear texture (painting in one direction )loading the paint up very generously in Tahr Premium Chalk Paint; using a Staalmeester 3600 Pure Bristle brush for texture over brushing in one direction for deep "one way texture" in two coats. (you may get some pulling of the paint but this is all part of it) once dry; lightly sand any irregular texture using 240 grit sand paper ( the texture will powder off like chalk dust) ensuring you leave plenty of texture behind
Waxing: Apply Artisan Dark wax directly over the dried Tahr in one direction replicating wood grain and ensuring you apply one section at a time, then wipe with clean lint free rag (in one direction) until touch dry. Repeat until you have covered the entire top.
Then mix yourself a strong potters clay coloured wax 60 paint 40 wax, and lightly dry brush with a clean and dry staalmeester 3600 pure bristle brush in a linear motion (one way) to create subtle variation
TiP: ensure there is very little of this wax on your brush, load up just the tips of the brush then dab it on a rag to remove some then lightly dust it over your table top in one direction; we're talking teeny tiny amount.
Once done use clear wax on your pure bristle brush and lightly dry brush over the entire surface this will blend and merge some of the variation as well as add another protective layer. gently and lightly dust excess off with a clean lint free rag.
Leave about 40 minutes then come back and buff your beautiful decorative wood finish with a clean lint free rag to help set and add a bit of sheen to the finish.
Frame: Paint in a 50/50 mix of Potters Clay and Crisp white using a Staalmeester angled brush and pointed tip size 12 ( use a brush in proportion to the frame you are painting
Waxing the frame: mix 50 / 50 clear wax and dark wax to create a subtle dark wax and brush over the frame and wipe back with lint free rag, to create low lights and age in edges and dips lightly dry brush full strength dark wax and gently wipe with rag.
Wheels : paint in Carbon Black Premium Chalk Paint, then Pewter Metallic Creme
Tip: with pieces like this its sometimes easier to tip it upside down first and paint in this view before turning it upright then painting what you can see

Every chair has potential to be an Artisan Paint Project, a chance to revive it in a way that's perfect for your home...small chair, big impact, and a great before and after.
Chairs make great decor pieces, great candidates for Artisan paints and products; a chance to revive and completely redesign regardless of its condition. A commission project for our client looking to lighten and neutralise this old chair and a complete re-design to suit whilst in the midst of a home re-styling. With markings chips and dings from it's previous history, a few paint stains, we worked in with it rather than against; giving it character whilst keeping it soft and elegant using Premium Chalk Paint, subtle texture paint work and subtle layers of coloured waxes for a gentle depth in finish and colour allowing us to highlight and accentuate it's shape. Bringing out the details with the rivets in artisan metallic creme adds a stylish designer touch to it and overall re-interpreting this chair into a beautiful piece giving it a completely new look and design. Hand painted and detailed specifically to suit our clients home.
What we did :
Painting: Hand painted with Subtle texture in Burmese Premium Chalk Paint using a Staalmeester angled brush, pointed tip (2022 style) size 12 and round brush (2020 style) size 18. It's important to use brushes in proportion to chair to avoid build up; although we did allow some build up on edges to fill in some chips and dings. 2x coats. Once painted, a light sand with 240 grit sand paper to remove any unwanted texture.
Waxing in order done: A 50/50 dark and clear wax was mixed together to create a subtle dark wax. Brushed over with our Staalmeester 3600 pure bristle brush gently wiped excess back with a clean lint free rag, allowing it to add an earthiness to the Burmese as well as creating subtle age to the finish.
Our Premium Chalk Paint in Kirimi colour applied as a coloured wax was mixed and lightly brushed over the top of the dark wax and lightly wiped back with a clean lint free rag, allowing waxes to mix and merge for depth, also pushing the dark waxed finish to the background and overall creating a lovely soft aged look.
Rivets were hand painted in Carbon Black using Staalmeester 1090 fine detailing brush, then painted over in Artisan Pewter Creme to detail the rivets on the front and back into an Artisan pewter finish
